ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro Fire Department quickly contained an electrical fire at a supermarket on Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, at about 7:35 a.m., the Attleboro Fire Department responded to a supermarket at 251 Washington St. for a reported fire.
When crews arrived, the building was already evacuated, and firefighters learned that store staff had noted a light smoke condition in a rear storage area.
Crews quickly located charring and arcing electrical wiring inside a freezer unit. They were able to isolate the issue and shut down the power going to the affected equipment.
The Attleboro Department of Health responded to the scene to conduct an inspection.
The Attleboro Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit is still investigating to determine the exact cause of the incident, but initial findings indicate the fire originated from the electrical wiring inside the freezer unit.
“I commend the crews on their quick actions,” said Attleboro Fire District Chief Mark Renker. “The first arriving crew was on scene in three minutes and made precise decisions that prevented any spread or further damage.”
No one was injured as a result of the incident, and the supermarket was able to reopen. Crews remained on scene for about an hour.
