Southborough Police Arrest Two Framingham Residents Following Traffic Enforcement Patrols

SOUTHBOROUGH — Chief Ryan Newell reports that the Southborough Police Department made two arrests of Framingham residents over the weekend following proactive traffic patrols.

JAHAIRA LABONTE, AGE 42, of FRAMINGHAM, was arrested on Saturday and charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a License Revoked as a Habitual Traffic Offender
  • Speeding (Infraction)
  • Failure to Notify the Registry of Motor Vehicles of a Name/Address Change (Infraction)

On Saturday, Oct. 18, at about 8 a.m., Southborough Police Detective Owen O’Brien was monitoring traffic in the area of Pine Hill Road and Waveney Road when a Volkswagen Jetta passed him driving 42 mph in a 30 zone.

Detective O’Brien activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and stopped the vehicle on Pine Hill Road. He identified the driver as LABONTE and learned that her license was revoked in Massachusetts as a habitual traffic offender.

LABONTE was arrested without incident.

During booking, Detective O’Brien learned that LABONTE had moved from Worcester to Framingham without updating her address with the Registry of Motor Vehicles, as required within 30 days. As a result, the infraction of Failure to Notify the Registry of Motor Vehicles of a Name/Address Change was added, which carries a fine.

In a separate incident, DARIO GONCALVES DA PENHA, AGE 26, of FRAMINGHAM, was arrested on Monday and charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Possession of a Class B Drug
  • Possession of a Class E Drug
  • Lights Violation (Infraction)

On Monday, Oct. 20, at about 3:29 a.m., Southborough Police Officer Theodore Davis was on patrol on Framingham Road when he observed a Ford F-150 pickup truck driving in the opposite direction with a broken rear taillight.

Officer Davis activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and stopped the vehicle on Marlboro Road. He identified the driver as GONCALVES DA PENHA.

Officer Davis learned that GONCALVES DA PENHA‘s license was suspended for refusing an alcohol test. He also learned there was an active default warrant for his arrest out of Westborough District Court.

Officer Jeffrey Mayer arrived to provide backup and saw GONCALVES DA PENHA reaching into the truck’s center console, at which point he was asked to step out of the vehicle.

During a later search of the center console, officers located 14 Methylphenidate pills, eight Torsilax pills, 30 Lorazepam pills and 10 Tramadol pills.

GONCALVES DA PENHA was arrested without incident.

LABONTE and GONCALVES DA PENHA are scheduled to be arraigned in separate appearances on Monday in Westborough District Court.

“Every member of the Southborough Police Department is committed to protecting our community in every way we can,” said Chief Newell. “The proactive efforts and attention to detail shown by our officers this weekend helped remove two dangerous drivers from the road.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
