MARBLEHEAD — The Town of Marblehead is modernizing its procurement procedures with new online purchasing software designed to streamline operations and increase public transparency.
The Town has selected OpenGov Procurement for its ease of functionality, intuitiveness, and ability to integrate with existing financial systems. The Town began reviewing potential software vendors in September 2024 following a careful analysis of departmental needs.
Procurement has been a particular challenge as the Town has relied on outdated, inefficient systems involving paper documents, Word files, and Excel spreadsheets.
OpenGov offers a paperless platform for procurement from initial solicitation to contract management. This streamlines workflows, centralizes contract data, offers automated alerts for deadlines and compliance, and provides tools for collaborative, value-based supplier evaluation. This will allow the Town to make more strategic purchasing decisions.
Residents can view active and historical contracts (started within OpenGov) in a single searchable location.
“For years the Town used out-of-date processes that did not reflect modern best practices,” said Chief Procurement Officer Allison Jenkins. “By investing in OpenGov Procurement, the Town will be able to make sound, data-driven decisions. We’re pleased that residents will be able to see how and why their tax dollars are being spent, which we hope will lead to further confidence in our financial team.”
The Town hopes to launch the OpenGov Procurement portal in mid-October, with more data and projects being added in the future.
