RAYNHAM — Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita reports that the Raynham Fire Department responded to a heavy-duty dump truck filled with gravel that overturned and caused a fuel spill on Interstate 495 on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, shortly after 8 a.m., a dump truck filled with gravel crashed and rolled over on the median of Interstate 495 Southbound.

The driver of the dump truck refused emergency medical transportation to a local hospital.

A major cleanup of the gravel, hydraulic fluids and diesel fuel that was spilled by the truck is underway.

Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation responded to the incident, shutting down a section of Interstate 495, diverting traffic via Exit 18 while encouraging drivers to seek alternate routes.

In addition to an Engine from the Raynham Fire Department, mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Middleboro Fire Department.

Raynham firefighters remain at scene of the crash as the cleanup from the incident continues.
