Lakeville Police Charge Freetown-Lakeville PTO Treasurer with Embezzlement

LAKEVILLE — Chief Matthew J. Perkins reports that a former treasurer of the Freetown-Lakeville Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) faces embezzlement charges following an investigation by the Lakeville Police Department’s Detective Unit.

ZACHARY GRANVILLE-WILMOT, 43, of ASSONET, was summonsed to court on charges of:

  • Forgery of Check (Two Counts)
  • Uttering a False Check (Two Counts)
  • Embezzlement Over $250 by an Association Member
  • Conspiracy

A second man, JAMES GRANVILLE-WILMOT, AGE 41, of ASSONET, was also summonsed to court on a Conspiracy charge.

On Aug. 22, the PTO informed Lakeville Police of missing funds.

The case was assigned to Lakeville Police Detective Robert Schiffer, who investigated the claims and discovered that over $15,000 in fraudulent transactions had been made by ZACHARY GRANVILLE-WILMOT in May and June of this year.

Criminal complaints were issued on Sept. 5 in Wareham District Court. ZACHARY GRANVILLE-WILMOT and JAMES GRANVILLE-WILMOT were summonsed to court and will be arraigned on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
