DRACUT — Police Chief Peter Bartlett reports that the Dracut Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with an investigation into an incident of gunfire that struck a Varnum Road home.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, at approximately 4:25 a.m., the Dracut Police Department was called to the area of Varnum Road and Robert Street for a report of gunfire.

Officers arrived to discover a dozen spent shell casings scattered across Varnum Road in the area of Robert Street. A nearby homeowner also discovered that several bullets struck their home, including at least four that were found inside on the dining room floor and in an upstairs hallway.

There were no reported injuries.

A subsequent investigation determined that the gunshots were fired from a light-colored sedan that drove past the home.

Police obtained a surveillance video that captured shots being fired from a vehicle passing the home, but the video isn’t high quality enough to enable police to identify a specific vehicle.

Police are nevertheless sharing that video with the public in an effort to generate tips and information about the incident.

Additionally, the department investigated a second report of possible gunfire in the area on Monday, Aug. 25. Officers were called back to the area on Monday about 8:20 p.m., for a report that someone heard what sounded like gunshots.

No shell casings or property damage were found.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact Dracut Police at 978-957-2123.
