RANDOLPH — Chief Anthony Marag reports that the Randolph Police Department, in collaboration with local and federal law enforcement partners, arrested a suspect on Wednesday in connection with two armed robberies at gas stations over the past week.
ALAIN MCDONALD, AGE 32, OF RANDOLPH, was arrested and charged with:
- Armed and Masked Robbery with a Firearm (Two Counts)
On Saturday, Aug. 23, around 8:15 p.m., Randolph Police responded to the Al Prime gas station, located at 304 Union St., for an armed robbery involving a man armed with a semiautomatic handgun who was wearing a black mask. The suspect fled the store on foot.
Then, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at approximately 1:21 p.m., Randolph Police responded to the Prestige gas station at 1201 N. Main St. for another report of an armed robbery in which the suspect was armed with a semiautomatic handgun and wearing a black mask. The suspect fled from the gas station and left the area in a gray Hyundai Elantra.
Randolph Police later learned that the West Squantum Market and Liquor Store at 205 W. Squantum St. in Quincy was robbed at gunpoint at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect in the Quincy robbery was also observed leaving the area in a gray Hyundai Elantra.
As a result of a collaborative investigation between Randolph Police Detectives and Quincy Police Detectives, the suspect in all three robberies was identified as MCDONALD.
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Randolph Police located MCDONALD on North Main Street operating a Hyundai Elantra that matched the one used following the armed robberies. They conducted a motor vehicle stop, identified the driver as MCDONALD, and took him into custody without further incident.
Following the execution of a search warrant, Randolph Police Detectives seized a loaded black Glock 9mm handgun, a large sum of cash, and a baseball cap with a gold sticker, matching the one worn by the suspect in each of the Randolph robberies.
MCDONALD was later brought to Quincy District Court to be arraigned for the two Randolph armed robberies. He will face additional charges from the Quincy Police Department.
In addition to receiving assistance from Quincy Police, the FBI Violent Crime Task Force helped the Randolph Police Department in the search for MCDONALD.
“The Randolph Police Department would like to thank the Quincy Police Department and the FBI Violent Crime Task Force for their assistance during this investigation,” said Chief Marag. “The professionalism of our officers, the hard work of our detectives and their teamwork with our fellow law enforcement agencies resulted in a dangerous criminal being taken off the streets.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
