HOLBROOK — The Holbrook Police Department is pleased to announce that David Del Papa has officially begun in his new role as Chief.

Chief Del Papa, a law enforcement officer for 28 years, was sworn in by Town Clerk Jeanmarie Tarara during a Holbrook Select Board meeting at Town Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Chief Del Papa thanked the Select Board, Interim Town Administrator Anne Mahoney, members of the community, his family and friends, past and present colleagues, and members of the Holbrook Police Department.

“Everybody I’ve met has been so kind and welcoming,” Chief Del Papa said. “There’s a real sense of pride in this community, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

He also extended a special thanks to retired Chief William Smith.

“Thank you for your support, your friendship, and your service to this department,” Chief Del Papa said. “What you accomplished as Chief is truly remarkable, and a testament to how much you care about this department, its officers, and the community.”

Chief Del Papa began his career as an officer for the Braintree Police Department in 1996. He spent 25 years with the department, working his way through the ranks, including a promotion to sergeant in 2006 and lieutenant in 2013.

In 2021, Del Papa was chosen as the Police Chief for the Abington Police Department, a position he held for nearly three years.

The Holbrook Select Board appointed him as the Chief of Police in July.

Chief Del Papa has also been an attorney since 2017.

Chief Del Papa holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Saint Anselm College and a Juris Doctor degree from the Massachusetts School of Law.

“It’s an absolute honor and privilege to serve as Chief of the Holbrook Police Department, and I look forward to the great things we’re going to accomplish together,” Chief Del Papa said. “This isn’t something that I accomplished myself. It has been through the love, friendship, guidance, leadership, and support of my family, friends, and esteemed colleagues that I’m able to stand here as the Chief.”
