CANTON — Chief Wendell Robery reports that the Canton Fire Department rescued a worker who was injured when a wall collapsed at a residential construction site Monday morning.

On Monday, Aug. 18, at approximately 10:23 a.m., Canton Fire and Police were dispatched to a home under construction at 10 Lake Road for a report of a worker injured on the second floor.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that a wall had collapsed onto the worker, leaving him injured and unable to exit the second floor of the structure. Firefighters utilized a rescue basket stretcher and ladder truck to bring the victim to the ground safely.

The man was transported by a Canton Fire ambulance to Boston Medical Center. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also responded and is investigating the incident.

During the incident, the Stoughton and Randolph Fire Departments provided mutual aid assistance by responding to multiple medical calls.

The Canton Fire Department also extends its gratitude to the Frank R. and Elizabeth Simoni Foundation, which previously provided a donation for a Double Clutch Twin Tension Rope System, which was used in Monday’s rescue.

“I want to commend our firefighters for their quick actions and the safe and efficient rescue they carried out this morning under challenging conditions,” said Chief Robery. “Two of our firefighters on duty today are members of the Norfolk County Technical Rescue Team, and they were instrumental in setting up the equipment needed to effect the rescue. We are grateful to our mutual aid partners who covered the town during this incident.”
