Tewksbury Police Charge Fitchburg Juvenile With Assault on an Officer, Resisting Arrest, Following Response to Motor Vehicle Crash

TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department arrested a juvenile on multiple charges, including assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, following a response to a motor vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

17-YEAR-OLD MALE, of FITCHBURG, was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Damage
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration

On Thursday, Aug. 14, at about 2:40 a.m., Tewksbury Police responded to the area of 86 Trull Road for reports of a crash.

Officers arrived on scene and observed a white Jeep Cherokee rolled over, with no occupants in the area.

As another officer approached the scene, police saw a person, whom they later identified as the 17-YEAR-OLD MALE, quickly walking away from the area of the crash.

The officer attempted to make contact with the teen, who shoved the officer and ran away. Officers pursued him into the backyard of a home on Trull Road. Police attempted to de-escalate but the teen remained uncooperative, prompting an officer to use pepper spray.

Police apprehended the teen and transported him to a local hospital for evaluation.

Police later determined that the teen did not possess a valid driver’s license and that the vehicle registration had been previously suspended.

The teen is being held on $10,000 bail and is due to be arraigned in Lowell Juvenile Court on Thursday, Aug. 14.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
