What:
The Stow Police Department, in collaboration with the Randall Library, will host the family of Gabby Petito, whose 2021 disappearance and murder gained national headlines, at a domestic violence community forum this week. It is the first time the Petito family has made a presentation on the East Coast.
Petito, a travel vlogger, went missing in August 2021 during a trip with her fiancé in Wyoming. Her fiancé’s remains were found in Florida a month later. He was officially blamed for her death and the case was closed.
The panel discussion will focus on community and police responses to domestic violence, ways to improve domestic violence training for officers and ways to support domestic violence survivors, as well as resources available in the area. There will be time for audience questions.
The event is free and open to all. Attendees are encouraged to donate to the Gabby Petito Foundation and support its mission and vision.
Nichole and Jim Schmidt will be available to speak with media from 5:45-6 p.m. Interested media members are asked to RSVP to Tom Zuppa, tom@jgpr.net, no later than 2 p.m. on Aug. 14. Responding media will receive access to body camera footage of police interactions with Petito as well as audio of a 9-1-1 call.
