BLACKSTONE — Chief Kevin Roy is pleased to announce that the Blackstone Fire Department has welcomed two new full-time firefighters and an on-call recruit.
Blackstone residents James Ahearn, 23, and John Anthony Douglas, 20, started at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA) in Stow on July 7. Ahearn and Douglas, both Blackstone-Millville Regional graduates, were hired as full-time members to fill open positions in the department.
The recruit academy is a 10-week program and ends on Sept. 19.
Currently, the Blackstone Fire Department has 10 full-time members with two open positions. Chief Roy has been interviewing candidates to fill those positions.
The department also has about 15 on-call staff members with various training and certification, such as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) -Basic, EMT-Paramedic, and Firefighter I/II.
On-call recruit Corey Denault, 37, of Bellingham, has been attending the Call/Volunteer Academy in Stow, since June. That session will conclude in November.
“Join me in welcoming all three new additions to the Blackstone Fire Department,” said Chief Roy. “We’re nearing a full complement of firefighters, and I look forward to having every empty position filled. Once James Ahearn, John Anthony Douglas and Corey Denault wrap up their training, the residents of Blackstone will have three more able firefighters on the job.”
