GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department and its mutual aid partners successfully battled a blaze early Friday at a local business.
Fire crews were notified at 2:35 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, of a fire at 150 Eastern Ave., which housed an auto body shop.
The first firefighters on scene noted that the building was fully involved. Two lines were immediately extended, master streams, and a ladder pipe put into operation, and a request was made to National Grid to shut off power to the site.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about an hour. There were no reported injuries.
Mutual aid coverage was provided by Rockport firefighters and Beauport Ambulance Service.
The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but it remains under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
