HOLBROOK — The Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center (HRECC) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a substantial grant of $12,001,495 from the Massachusetts State 911 Department.
This grant, part of the Fiscal Year 2026 State 911 Department Regional Public Safety Answering Point and Regional Secondary Public Safety Answering Point and Regional Emergency Communications Center Development Grant Program, will significantly enhance HRECC’s capabilities and support public safety efforts across multiple communities.
The grant will fund various initiatives aimed at improving emergency response services. These include professional services to examine the regional center’s operations and benefits. Additionally, funds will be allocated for transition awards to support the integration of several towns into HRECC, including Abington, East Bridgewater, Fairhaven, Holliston, Norwood, Sherborn, Stoughton, and Sudbury.
“Being a part of the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center has strengthened our communications and allowed us to hire more officers to be on the streets, benefiting the residents of East Bridgewater,” said East Bridgewater Police Chief Michael Jenkins. “We are incredibly grateful for the State 911 Department grant that provided crucial funding to make our transition into HRECC possible.”
“We are grateful for our partnership with the Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center, which provides greater depth to our dispatch services, particularly with multiple incidents occurring simultaneously,” said Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix. “HRECC Administration continues to collaborate in a cohesive manner with police and fire to continually improve. Through HRECC, utilizing State 911 grant funding, we are very much looking forward to substantially improving our radio infrastructure for both police and fire, as well as with our schools.”
This funding will also bolster transition expenses for security measures for the Abington Fire Department and facilitate the acquisition of critical equipment necessary to enhance 911 services.
“This funding represents a major investment in the regional approach to emergency communications,” said HRECC Director Steve Hooke. “It will allow us to implement vital improvements to infrastructure and operations while continuing to deliver the high level of service that our partner communities depend on.”
The grant contract began on July 1 and runs through June 30, 2026. This funding will be utilized in accordance with the Development Grant Guidelines to ensure that all initiatives are aligned with the provision of enhanced 911 services.
“Each year, this grant program helps us push the boundaries of what regional public safety communications can achieve,” Hooke said. “We’re proud to be a model for regional dispatch and look forward to using these funds to meet the evolving needs of our growing network of partner agencies.”
