Ashby Police Officers Issued Commendation For Saving the Life of Dog Bite Victim

ASHBY — Two Ashby Police officers were recognized for their quick response to a medical call in June, during which a victim suffered multiple dog bites.

On Tuesday, June 17, at approximately 10:43 p.m., Patrolmen Christopher Davis and Ethan Goodreau were dispatched to a medical call involving a patient who had suffered multiple dog bites to the upper and lower arms, resulting in several puncture wounds and significant blood loss.

Both officers arrived in minutes, assessed the injuries and began administering first aid. When they were unable to control the bleeding, they applied a tourniquet, effectively stopping the blood loss. Patrolmen Davis and Goodreau continued to provide care until the arrival of a Townsend Fire-EMS’ Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance.

Davis and Goodreau were issued a commendation for their quick, life-saving actions, which was read aloud at the Select Board meeting on Wednesday, July 30. The commendations were presented by Chief Derek Pepple.

“Your quick response to the medical call, rendering first aid and application of a tourniquet to stop the severe bleeding, saved the patient’s life,” said Chief Pepple in the commendation letter. “Your actions serve as an example of the Ashby Police Department’s core values of Duty, Respect and Service.”
