SUDBURY — Chief Timothy Choate reports that the Sudbury Fire Department and its mutual aid partners extinguished a two-alarm fire in a home on Indian Ridge Road.
On Monday, July 28, at about 10:36 a.m., the Sudbury Fire Department was called to 40 Indian Ridge Road for a report of a possible structure fire.
Companies arrived to find smoke showing from the basement and first floor of a 1 1/2-story Cape style home. All occupants had evacuated.
Companies forced entry into the home’s basement and stretched a hose line inside, where they found the bulk of the fire as well as heavy smoke and heat. A second hose line was stretched into the home’s first floor so companies could check for fire extension and search the home.
The fire was knocked down by about 11:20 a.m.
Companies remained on scene to conduct extensive overhaul of the home, so a second alarm was struck to bring additional resources. This enabled companies to be rotated through the home, maintaining safety despite the day’s high heat and humidity.
The home’s occupants will be displaced. They are being assisted by the Sudbury Health Department. Also assisting at the scene were the Sudbury Building Department, Sudbury Police, and the Sudbury Electrical Inspector.
Two firefighters were injured and were sent for medical evaluation with non-life threatening injuries.
Mutual aid was provided at the scene by an engine, ladder, and two ambulances from Framingham, an engine from Maynard, and an engine from Marlborough. A Wayland Fire Department ambulance also responded to the scene to assist with firefighter rehabilitation. Firefighters from Acton, Concord, Weston and Hudson covered Sudbury Fire stations to protect the town.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the District 14 Fire Investigation Team.
