GROVELAND — The Groveland Water and Sewer Department is asking customers to shut down their irrigation systems over the weekend to allow the aquifer to recover from high usage at wells #3 and #4.
Well #1 was shut down to perform necessary repairs. Groveland Water and Sewer operates three wells in all, but the Department must refrain from pumping the other two wells 24 hours a day to avoid straining equipment and limiting the ability to pump from the wells.
With Well #1 off-line, it places all the demand on Wells #3 and #4, which need periods of rest in order to maintain their pumping capacity.
Repairs to Well #1 have been made, but the equipment cannot be reinstalled until early next week.
The aquifer around Well #3 and #4 has not been allowed time to recharge/refill due to high water demand as a result of lawn irrigation. As a result, Groveland Water and Sewer is asking customers to voluntarily refrain from irrigating this weekend.
“We want to thank all of our customers who have been voluntarily conserving water. Your efforts have helped ensure that we did not need to implement a water ban while completing these repairs,” said Superintendent Colin Stokes. “Now we kindly request that our customers help us complete this process and get Well #1 back online by refraining from irrigation this weekend. I want to thank everyone for their cooperation in advance.”
The Department will issue updates to the community through CodeRed notifications, which you can sign up for on the Department’s website, grovelandwaterandsewer.com
