WAYLAND — Chief Ed Burman reports that the Wayland Police Department is actively investigating the assault of a homeowner that occurred on Friday night.
On Friday, July 18, at 9:43 p.m., Wayland Police received a phone call from a homeowner on Joyce Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man, the homeowner, suffering from facial wounds.
According to a preliminary investigation, the man heard a noise in his backyard. The homeowner went to look outside to investigate; he saw two males wearing dark clothing and face masks. Upon encountering the men, the homeowner stated that the suspects, who were armed with handguns, entered the home and demanded money and gold. The suspects were unsuccessful in obtaining anything. The suspects fled through the front door and remain at large, police said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for injuries believed to be minor.
The Wayland Police Department currently believes that this was an isolated incident.
Wayland Police and its law enforcement partners have deployed multiple assets in pursuit of the suspects.
The department reminds residents to report any suspicious behavior to the police department.
