Dunkin for a Day: Town of Stow Will Change Name on July 24 to Welcome Return of Dunkin Brand

Local Fans Invited to Attend Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

STOW – Stow’s drought as a “Dunkin’ Desert” is almost over.

On Tuesday, July 8, the Stow Select Board voted unanimously to rename the Town “Dunkin’” to celebrate the return of the beloved brand to a location on Great Road.

Both of the Town’s previous Dunkin’ locations closed within 30 days of each other in 2022. The situation gained widespread attention after WBZ NewsRadio’s Matt Shearer posted a light-hearted TikTok poking fun at the Town’s predicament — and New England’s love for Dunkin’. The video went viral, sparking national media coverage reaching almost 100 million people, ultimately cementing Stow’s reputation as a “Dunkin Desert.”

Mark and Megan Pesce, who operate multiple Dunkin’ franchises throughout the Greater Boston area, purchased 108 Great Road last August – the site of the long-closed Beef ‘N Ale restaurant on the Lower Village Common.

“As soon as we heard the two stores in Stow had closed, we wanted to fix that,” Megan Pesce told board members. “We’re excited to be able to keep the feel, and the porch, that was the Beef ‘N Ale for so many years.”

The couple requested that the Board symbolically adopt Dunkin’ as the Town’s name on July 24 in honor of the store’s grand opening celebration.

The celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. Attendees will include the Pesces, local officials, and Cuppy, Dunkin’s official mascot. Additionally, the grand opening celebration will include:

  • 100 days of free coffee for the first 100 Dunkin’ Rewards members in line
  • A live unveiling of the Dunkin’ Desert gallery wall, showcasing highlights of the Dunkin’ Desert
  • A press conference with opening remarks from Dunkin’ franchisees Megan and Mark Pesce, owners of the newest location
  • A $5,000 check presentation by Megan and Mark to the Stow Food Pantry in partnership with the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation

“When the story did come out, I had friends from the Massachusetts area who moved to California, and from all the way there they let us know they were praying for us,” Select Board Member Dan Peterson said, drawing laughter from the audience. “I guess our prayers have been answered.”
