TIVERTON — The Town of Tiverton is pleased to announce the launch of a new community survey, titled “Tiverton Trash Talk: Have Your Say!” The initiative invites all Tiverton residents to share their thoughts on the town’s current Pay As You Throw (PAYT) trash collection system and provide input on potential changes to how household trash is managed.
The 16-question survey is designed to gather community feedback on whether residents are satisfied with the current PAYT bag system or would prefer a new model in which the town provides wheeled trash and recycling barrels for curbside collection.
“This survey is an important step in evaluating how well our current system is serving residents, and whether there is interest in exploring a more modern and user-friendly alternative,” said Tiverton Town Administrator Patrick Jones. “We want to hear directly from residents about what works, what doesn’t and what options they would like us to consider.”
The PAYT system, which requires residents to purchase official town trash bags, has been in place for years. While it encourages waste reduction and helps control municipal disposal costs, the town recognizes that residents’ needs and preferences may evolve over time. The proposed alternative — a barrel-based system — would eliminate the need for special bags and provide residents with town-issued trash containers equipped with wheels, similar to those used in nearby communities.
The “Tiverton Trash Talk” survey is available now and will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31. All Tiverton residents are encouraged to participate and make their voices heard.

Results will be compiled and presented to town leadership and the Tiverton Town Council for consideration as they assess the future of local waste management services.
For questions about the survey or to request a paper copy, residents may contact the Tiverton Town Administrator’s Office at adminassist@tiverton.ri.gov or 401-625-6710.
