Town of Canton Informs Residents of Trash Pickup Disruption Due to Republic Services Work Stoppage

CANTON — The Town of Canton is notifying residents that Republic Services will not collect trash and recycling today due to a work stoppage initiated by the company’s labor union, which represents many of the employees.

Residents are asked not to place trash or recycling at the curb today, as there will be no scheduled pickup service. Residents who have already put their bins at the curb are asked to bring them back until further notice.

Republic Services has informed the Town that it anticipated the possibility of a work stoppage and is currently mobilizing relief drivers to resume collection services in the coming days.

The labor union represents drivers and mechanics employed by Republic Services. The strike action follows a recent vote amid ongoing contract negotiations.

“We understand the frustration this sudden disruption may cause and appreciate residents’ patience as we work closely with Republic Services to restore collection services as quickly and safely as possible,” said Town Administrator Charles Doody.

The Town will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available and will share any revised pickup schedules when they are confirmed.
