Fall River Public Schools Names Stephanie Brown Principal of Tansey Elementary School

FALL RIVER — Superintendent Dr. Tracy Curley is pleased to announce that Stephanie Brown has been named the new principal of Tansey Elementary School.

Brown, who most recently served for five years as principal of South Elementary School in Somerset, will take over the new role effective July 1.

“I’m really excited to join the team, get to work and learn from my new colleagues at Fall River Public Schools,” said Brown. “I like the direction they are going with collaboration, building leaders and providing support with professional development. I strongly believe education isn’t something you can do in a silo or independently anymore. You have to do that working together, drawing on everyone with their unique experiences and strengths, to solve problems.”

Prior to her most recent role as principal of South Elementary School, Brown served as principal at North Elementary School in Somerset from 2017 through 2020.

For Brown, taking the helm at Tansey Elementary School calls to mind one of her earliest teaching experiences. While never officially employed by Fall River Public Schools, Brown did a semester of student teaching at Tansey Elementary School while attending Bridgewater State University in 1988.

A native of Westport, whose maiden name is Borden, Brown is a descendant of Fall River’s Borden family. She also has a son named Westall, evoking the name of a Fall River school, Westall Elementary School.

Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Bridgewater State University, and a master’s degree in education from Rhode Island College. She is also currently pursuing a doctorate in education leadership.

“We’d like to welcome Ms. Brown to Fall River Public Schools and feel confident Tansey will feel like home to her in no time at all,” Dr. Curley said. “With more than 35 years in the field, she is bringing with her a wealth of experience that matches the culture and needs of the Tansey school community.  I just can’t wait to see where the school will go under her leadership.”
