Canton’s Department of Elder and Human Services Offers Monthly Low Vision Support Group

CANTON — Director Diane Tynan and the Department of Elder and Human Services are pleased to highlight a valuable community resource that provides comfort, connection and support to residents experiencing vision loss.

Each month, the Department of Elder and Human Services (DEHS), in partnership with the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, hosts a Low Vision Support Group at the Canton Senior Center, 500 Pleasant St. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. and is open to any resident age 18 or older.

Since launching in 2021, the group’s meetings have become a trusted gathering space — primarily for older adults aged 55 and up — where participants can share their experiences, access helpful information and support one another through the challenges of vision loss.

“This group has truly become a community within a community,” Tynan said. “It’s a place where residents can talk openly, learn from one another and feel less alone in their journey.”

The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind works closely with DEHS to ensure attendees receive the most up-to-date resources, guidance and support available for individuals with low vision.

“We’re proud to offer programs that address real needs in our community, and this group is a perfect example of how collaboration can make a real difference in people’s lives,” Tynan said.

Residents interested in learning more or attending a meeting are encouraged to contact Community Social Worker Vicky DiMaria or Director Tynan at 781-828-1323.
