TEWKSBURY – Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department arrested a Worcester man on Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, among other charges, following a brief pursuit.

DANIEL RIEDL, AGE 41, of WORCESTER, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Larceny of Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Damage (Four Counts)
  • Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked License
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Speeding

On Sunday, June 22, at approximately 1:23 p.m., Tewksbury Police received a report that a vehicle had been stolen from the Petroil Gas station on Main Street. The vehicle was described as a white Ford F250 that had two PVC poles in the truck bed.

Officers observed the vehicle approaching Shawsheen Street and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The driver did not stop for police, struck a vehicle — a Honda Civic — and fled the scene.

Tewksbury Police then received reports of another crash involving the white Ford F250 and a Kia Sorento.

Officers located the vehicle traveling on Shawsheen Street and decided to terminate the pursuit due to the dangerous driving of the operator. Police traveled at a safe distance behind the vehicle as it proceeded to turn onto East Street and then onto Main Street. The driver then proceeded to continue toward Route 495 southbound, where the vehicle crashed into a traffic light, backed into a Tewksbury Police cruiser, and proceeded to get onto the highway.

Tewksbury Police then notified Massachusetts State Police of the white Ford’s location.

A short time later, Massachusetts State Police were able to safely stop the vehicle and place the driver, identified as RIEDL, under arrest. RIEDL was transported to the Tewksbury Police Station for booking.

RIEDL is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

Tewksbury Police would like to thank the Massachusetts State Police for their assistance.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
