BOURNE — Superintendent Dr. Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou and Principal Dr. Lisa Maguire are pleased to announce that Kristyn Alexander has been appointed as the new athletic director for Bourne High School, effective July 1.

Alexander has been a dedicated member of Bourne Public Schools since 2009, serving as an adapted physical education teacher. From 2009 to 2015, she also taught elementary physical education.

She will succeed Scott Ashworth, who has served as athletic director for the past 15 years. Although Ashworth is set to retire in February 2026, he will continue teaching and coaching within the District until his retirement.

Over her years in Bourne, Alexander has taken on several key roles within the District’s athletic programs. She has served as a head coach of the junior varsity softball team, assistant coach for the varsity softball team, head coach of the Unified basketball team and founder and head coach of the Bourne-Mashpee-Wareham Girls Ice Hockey team. She also served as a game administrator and ticket sales manager, overseeing game day operations.

A former three-sport athlete at Wareham High School, Alexander was inducted into the Rhode Island College Hall of Fame for her outstanding collegiate softball career, where she was a four-year starter and team captain.

Alexander holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a specialization in adapted physical education from Rhode Island College and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from American International College.

“I believe in the transformative power of sports to shape character, build community and develop leadership,” Alexander said. “I am committed to fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, where both athletic and academic success are equally prioritized. Through collaborative leadership, strategic planning and passion for mentorship, I strive to develop programs that prepare students not only to win games but to thrive in life.”

Superintendent Dr. Quinlan-Zhou and Principal Dr. Maguire both congratulated Alexander on becoming Bourne High School’s new athletic director, and they each wished her success in her new role leading the school’s athletic program. They also thanked outgoing Athletic Director Scott Ashworth for all his contributions and his longtime commitment to the Bourne High School sports.

“Ms. Alexander brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our athletic programs,” said Principal Dr. Maguire. “We are excited to see her lead Bourne High School’s athletics into a new chapter.”

“On behalf of the District, I’d like to thank Mr. Ashworth for his many years of dedicated service as athletic director,” said Superintendent Dr. Quinlan-Zhou. “We are grateful for all of Mr. Ashworth’s contributions to the athletic program and wish him a well-deserved retirement next year. I also want to welcome Ms. Alexander to her new leadership role. We are truly excited for her, look forward to seeing her vision take shape and cannot wait to see all that she will accomplish with our student athletes. Her strong background in sports and her longstanding service to our schools will be invaluable as she takes charge of our athletic department.”
