Superintendent Amanda Isabelle and Principal Tina Fleming are pleased to share that two Mascoma Valley Regional High School students, juniors Adeline Josephson and Reece Woodward, earned third place at the Destination Imagination Global Finals.
Teams from across the globe compete in the Destination Imagination Finals in six different categories of contests that encourage participants to develop solutions to challenges. Challenges are open-ended, allowing participants to explore the creative process and express themselves while taking full ownership of their solutions.
The finals were held in Kansas City, MO, from May 22-25, marking the end of the 2024/25 Destination Imagination season, which engaged 30,000 students worldwide.
Josephson and Woodward competed in the Improvisational Challenge “Are We There Yet?” at the Secondary Level. In the challenge, they were tasked with creating a scenario involving two destinations, a mode of transportation, and a character searching for something. Their scenario would also be detoured at some point by a card placed in the performance space by judges that needed to be worked into the skit.
With two minutes to plan their skit and five to perform, the pair created a skit that judges remarked as captivating and enjoyable.
One judge said, “Conveying so much fun with calmness, using sequence and elements with just two people, truly is a superpower—amazing!”
In the skit, Josephson played a thief searching for their lock picks, traveling via airplane from the Great Barrier Reef to FunSpot Arcade. Throughout the skit, Woodward embodied seven different characters, including the “nervous flyer,” which judges noted as a standout moment.
Josephson and Woodward tied for third out of 25 teams. In addition to competing in the Improvisational Challenge, the pair also competed in the Instant Challenge, a unique competition where participants have under 10 minutes to come up with a solution to a problem on the spot, encouraging teams to work quickly, be creative and show off their critical thinking skills.
“Destination Imagination is an excellent opportunity for students to explore problem solving using mediums that challenge them while also encouraging expression,” said Superintendent Isabelle. “I am proud of Adeline and Reece for their commitment to Destination Imagination, and I congratulate them on their well-earned accomplishments.”
