SEEKONK — Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell and Principal Alexis A. Bouchard are pleased to share that 124 Dr. Kevin M. Hurley Middle School eighth graders have returned from a successful field trip to Washington, D.C., and New York City.

The Hurley Middle School (HMS) eighth graders took a three night/four-day trip to Manhattan, New York City, and the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., from May 20-23. The students were accompanied by 17 chaperones.

In Manhattan, the eighth graders visited the 9/11 Memorial and took a boat cruise to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty. While in Washington, D.C., the group visited the White House, various memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and the Smithsonian museums. The students also took a dinner/dance boat cruise on the Potomac River.

“I’m so proud of our eighth graders for demonstrating the Warrior Way throughout the entire trip,” said Principal Bouchard. “We would like to thank the chaperones who attended the class trip, and special education teacher Mrs. Chelsea Brown for making the experience memorable for our eighth graders who did not travel to New York and Washington.”

Students who did not travel to New York and Washington took a day trip to the Rhode Island State House and had a fun-filled day at Dave n’ Buster’s arcade. Educational learning activities were led by Mrs. Brown, and students were well-behaved and enjoyed the events at HMS.

“We are looking forward to the semi-formal eighth-grade dance on June 6 and the Promotional Celebration on June 12,” said Principal Bouchard. A potential rain date for the Promotional Celebration has been set for June 16.

“It’s always bittersweet as our middle school lets go of each year’s class of eighth graders,” said Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell. “This year’s class has proven themselves to be true Seekonk Warriors, by their behavior while on this trip and throughout the school year. While the middle school faculty says goodbye, our high school staff is ready to welcome these amazing students.”
