ACTON — Chief Anita Arnum is pleased to share that Acton Firefighter/Paramedic Jonathan Chan successfully completed and graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighter Academy (MFA) on Friday, May 23.

Firefighter/Paramedic Chan was one of 35 graduates in the Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program Class #330. Chan joined the Acton Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in November 2024.

During the 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program, students received classroom training in all basic firefighter skills, practicing first under non-fire conditions and then during controlled fire conditions. To graduate, students needed to demonstrate proficiency in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack, ranging from mailbox fires to multi-floor structural fires.

Chan is now certified to the levels of Firefighter I and II, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations, by the Massachusetts Fire Training Council, which is accredited by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.

“On behalf of the Acton Fire Department, I express my pride and congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Jonathan Chan for graduating from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy,” said Chief Arnum. “We are excited to have him back on shift, benefiting our community through his rigorous training and dedication.”

The other 34 graduates of Class #330 represent the fire departments of Falmouth, Gardner, Haverhill, Lynnfield, Mansfield, Medway, Middleborough, Natick, Norwell, Provincetown, Salem, Waltham, Wayland, and Wellfleet.
