SEEKONK — Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell and Principal Dr. William V. Whalen III announce that Seekonk High School will offer five seats per grade for non-resident students through the Inter-District School Choice Program for the 2025-26 school year.
The Seekonk School Committee approved the initiative during its public meeting on Monday, May 19.
This marks the first time that Seekonk Public Schools will offer enrollment at Seekonk High School to non-resident students through the state’s School Choice program.
The Massachusetts Inter-District School Choice Program allows non-resident students to attend public schools in participating districts. This initiative brings both new students and additional financial resources to Seekonk.
Applications will be accepted through Monday, June 16, at 5 p.m. If more applications are received than available seats, a lottery will be held on June 26.
Interested families with questions about the program may contact Karen Clarkson, administrative assistant for Seekonk Public Schools, by phone at 508-399-5106 or by email at clarksonk@seekonkschools.org.
The district anticipates receiving $5,000 per School Choice student, with additional reimbursement for those requiring special education services.
Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell and Principal Dr. William V. Whalen III said School Choice students who come to Seekonk Public Schools will receive a top-quality education in a welcoming environment, providing exceptional opportunities for extracurricular engagement.
“Seekonk High School offers an outstanding education with a welcoming, empowering atmosphere,” said Principal Whalen. “We provide diverse opportunities — from leadership and civic engagement to arts and athletics. Our forward-thinking programs help students explore college and career pathways, and we believe all students can succeed with the right support.”
“We welcome the opportunity to extend School Choice to high school students and families,” said Superintendent Kidwell. “Seekonk High School provides a wide array of rigorous courses, extracurricular activities, and athletics. This expansion opens our doors to more students across the region, and we look forward to having them join our school community.”
