STONEHAM — Police Chief James O’Connor reports that the Stoneham Police Department arrested and charged a man with attempting to rob a liquor store in town earlier this month.
SEAN DOLAN, AGE 38, OF STONEHAM, was arrested and charged with:
- Armed Assault with Intent to Rob
- Attempt to Commit a Crime — Armed Robbery While Masked
On Saturday, May 10, at approximately 7 p.m., the Stoneham Police Department responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at Redstone Liquors, 115 Main St.
A preliminary investigation determined that a masked suspect entered the store, brandished a knife, and demanded money from the cash register. A store clerk called for help from another clerk, which caused the suspect to flee the store before obtaining any money or goods.
A subsequent investigation conducted by the Stoneham Police Detective Division used video surveillance from the area and witness interviews to identify DOLAN as a suspect. On Monday, May 12, DOLAN was arrested by Stoneham Police and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License. Stoneham Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for the vehicle DOLAN was driving, and located a mask believed to have been used in the armed robbery attempt.
On Tuesday, May 20, Stoneham Police obtained an arrest warrant from Woburn District Court that charged DOLAN in connection with the robbery attempt.
Thanks to assistance from Wakefield Police, DOLAN was located in Wakefield and taken into custody without incident later on Tuesday.
DOLAN is scheduled to be arraigned in Woburn District Court on Wednesday.
The Melrose, Wakefield and Woburn Police departments all provided valuable assistance to this investigation. The preliminary investigation was conducted by Officers Chris Smith, Nicholas Palmieri, Stephen Chatelle, Sgt. Christopher Murphy, Detective Sean O’Grady and Detective Chris Copan. The follow-up investigation was conducted by Detective Sgt. Christopher Dalis and Detective O’Grady.
“I want to thank Wakefield, Melrose and Woburn Police for their assistance with this investigation, and I want to recognize all of our personnel who were involved in bringing this case to a successful conclusion,” said Chief O’Connor.
These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
