BROOKLINE — The Brookline Department of Public Works (DPW) will provide a Trash Amnesty pick up during the week of May 27 as part of Brookline’s Hybrid Pay-As-You-Throw Trash (HPAYT) Program.
From May 27-31, residents using Town Trash Collection Service will be permitted to dispose of extra bags of household waste alongside their Town-issued trash cart on their scheduled trash pickup day. Due to the Memorial Day holiday, trash collection will be delayed by one day during Trash Amnesty Week.
Trash Amnesty Week provides residents using Town Service with an opportunity to dispose of extra waste without incurring a fee for overflow trash bags. Trash carts can be placed out at their normal time, after 3:30 p.m. the night before collection, but excess bags are preferred to only be placed out the morning of collection before 7 a.m. so as not to attract rodents.
Trash Amnesty Week applies only to household trash and not bulky items such as sofas, mattresses, TVs, and appliances. Bulky items must be paid for and scheduled online in advance, as the cost to process these items exceeds the trash collection fee. Bulky item pickups must be scheduled one week in advance.
Construction and demolition waste will not be accepted. Household hazardous waste items, such as flammable materials, should be brought to the Town’s Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Facility at 815 Newton St. on Tuesdays between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Additional information on what items are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Facility can be found online here. Yard waste pickups will occur as normal on assigned pickup days.
Additional information on the Town’s Trash Collection Services can be found at www.brooklinema.gov/Sanitation. Please direct any questions or concerns to the Department of Public Works at 617-730-2156.
