North Middlesex Regional High School Students Earn State Seal of Biliteracy

Superintendent Brad Morgan and Principal Laurie Smith are pleased to share that two North Middlesex Regional High School students have been recognized by the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy with the Biliteracy Award.

The Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy recognizes students who have achieved proficiency in English and a partner language by high school graduation. Students will earn the seal on their diploma as a statement of accomplishment for future employers and college admissions.

Senior Gabrielle Roberto earned two Seals due to her proficiency in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Gabrielle’s heritage language is Portuguese, and she took Spanish as a World Language for three years at NMRHS. The Seal honors her linguistic skills and the rich cultural heritage that she proudly carries forward.

Junior Connor Tesini earned the Seal due to his proficiency in English and Spanish. He has taken Spanish as a World Language for three years at NMRHS. Connor has demonstrated his dedication to mastering a new language, which has led to this impressive accomplishment.

The State Seal of Biliteracy aims to encourage students to study and master languages; certify attainment of biliteracy skills; recognize the value of language diversity; provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills; provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for attainment of high-level skills in languages; prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community.

“Congratulations to Gabrielle and Connor, whose hard work and dedication paved the way to their success in earning the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy,” said Superintendent Morgan. “To earn the Seal is an outstanding accomplishment, but it’s the work they have put in behind the scenes in becoming literate in a world language that truly stands out.”

The NMRHS administration would like to acknowledge the English Department, World Languages Department, and Multilingual Learner Department for their dedication to helping students achieve this honor.
