ACTON — Town Manager John Mangiaratti is pleased to announce the 2024 Joseph A. Lalli Merit Award for Municipal and Public Safety Employees of the Year: Assessing Analyst Marty Abbott and Police Detective Douglas Mahoney.
Assessing Analyst Abbott and Detective Mahoney were recognized during the second night of Acton’s Annual Town Meeting on May 6. Both received a certification of recognition.
Assessing Analyst Abbott was named the 2024 Municipal Employee of the Year for her passion and exemplary service to the Town of Acton and its residents.
She began working in the town in 1999, filling various roles. For the past 13 years, Abbott has been working in the Assessor’s Office in an administrative role and was recently promoted to Assessing Analyst.
Abbott is described as someone who goes above and beyond for residents, often making house visits to residents who are unable to come to Town Hall. Abbott also provides additional support to other departments, as her extensive knowledge of the Collectors, Assessors, and Town Clerk offices also helps her play a pivotal role in the Finance department.
“It’s an honor serving the citizens of Acton,” said Abbott.
Detective Mahoney was named the 2024 Public Safety Employee of the Year for his outstanding work and contribution to the community.
Detective Mahoney joined the Acton Police Department in 2012, has served in many roles, including a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, and within the Special Services Division.
In 2019, Detective Mahoney joined the Accreditation team and helped the Acton Police Department officially become an accredited agency. Mahoney was also instrumental in assisting the department with the reaccreditation in 2024.
He is described by his colleagues as a dependable source of expertise and guidance.
“Detective Mahoney is very dedicated to his work and constantly sets a great example. This award is very well deserved,” said Police Chief James Cogan. “It is great to see his effort and hard work being recognized.”
“I am pleased to honor both Marty Abbott and Detective Mahoney for their dedication to our Town and our community,” said Town Manager Mangiaratti. “Each of them provides the highest level of service to their roles here in Acton. Marty and Detective Mahoney are truly deserving of these awards, both demonstrating excellence and commitment every day. I congratulate them on this accomplishment and thank them for all they do.”
