MAYNARD — Chief Christopher Troiano is pleased to report that on Wednesday, the Maynard Police Department and the Maynard Select Board recognized Sgt. Eric Davoll for saving the life of a dispatcher.
“On the night of March 31, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Sgt. Davoll was in the police station when a dispatcher began choking on a piece of fruit that had completely obstructed her airway. Without hesitation, and with no other personnel present, Sgt. Davoll immediately administered the Heimlich maneuver. His actions successfully dislodged the obstruction and allowed the dispatcher to breathe again,” Chief Troiano wrote in a Letter of Commendation that was sent to the Select Board. “His response did not end there. Sgt. Davoll continued to provide care by retrieving the dispatcher’s emergency inhaler, offering water, and contacting the Fire Department to respond for further medical evaluation. For the remainder of the shift, he continued to monitor her well-being and provide reassurance, helping to restore her sense of safety and composure during an extremely vulnerable and distressing experience.”
Sgt. Davoll has served with the Maynard Police Department since 2006. He was promoted to sergeant in 2024. He was recognized on Wednesday night before the Maynard Select Board.
“I was proud to present Sgt. Davoll to our Select Board so he could be recognized for his life-saving actions, swift response, and calm professionalism,” said Chief Troiano. “His actions directly resulted in saving the life of a fellow department member. His actions reflect not only exceptional training and composure but also genuine compassion and a deep commitment to those we serve alongside.”
“Sergeant Davoll’s actions exemplify the selfless service of the Maynard Police observed by our community every day,” said Town Administrator Gregory Johnson. “The Select Board and the Town Administrator’s Office publicly shared our gratitude for Sergeant Davoll, and we look forward to witnessing his long-career of excellent service.”
