MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal John Murray are pleased to share that the Medway High School Best Buddies Club attended the annual Best Buddies Prom at Hopkinton High School on Friday, April 11.
The annual Best Buddies Prom featured a country western theme, providing a unique experience for Best Buddies Club members, was held in addition to the upcoming Medway High School prom. This year’s Best Buddies Prom repeated the success of the inaugural event, providing a night of excitement, filled with friendship, dancing and inclusion.
Hopkinton High School Best Buddies co-advisor Chip Collins extended event invitations to all Medway Best Buddies Club members, ACCEPT members and other students 18 to 22 years old who were in Best Buddies or are in out-of-district placements.
The event featured two special celebrity guests, Medway’s Olympic luge athlete Zack Digregorio and fellow Olympian team member Emily Sweeney.
Digregorio competed in the doubles and team relay events in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, where he finished in 11th and 7th place, respectfully. Sweeney is a 2019 and 2025 World Championship bronze medalist, as well as a 2013 Junior World Champion.
“Zack and Emily’s generous and caring nature, and their country dancing expertise truly enhanced the fun of the evening”, said Jill Aldorisio, Best Buddies Club co-advisor.
Principal John Murray congratulated organizers of the Best Buddies Prom for a successful event that brought many people together for a night of fun, in line with the mission of Best Buddies International, the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and development disabilities.
“Thank you to our partners at Hopkinton High School for holding this unique event, providing a chance for our Best Buddies Club members to dance the night away and have a lot of fun,” said Principal Murray. “Medway High School is a proud supporter of Best Buddies International. We wholeheartedly embrace its mission and are grateful to all of our Best Buddies Club advisors who help make events like this possible.”
