GEORGETOWN — Police Chief David Sedgwick and Fire Chief Matt McKay report that the Georgetown Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, April 30, at approximately 1:23 p.m., Georgetown Police and Fire responded to the area of 29 Pond St. for reports of a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a downed electric pole.

Upon arrival, Georgetown Fire Car 1 observed a utility pole and wires down across Pond Street, with fire coming from the electric lines. The fire was near a residence.

Due to staffing, mutual aid was requested from Groveland Fire. A short time later, Georgetown Ambulance and Engine 2 arrived on scene.

Georgetown Engine 2 and Groveland Engine 3 then arrived and evacuated residents from the nearby home and stretched a precautionary hose line until power was safely cut off. Georgetown Municipal Light also responded to the scene and cut the power to the area.

Crews were able to safely extinguish the fire caused by the downed power lines, with no damage to any structures.

The driver and sole occupant was evaluated on scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Georgetown Police.

“We would like to thank Groveland Fire for their mutual aid response, and Georgetown Light Department for their quick response, as the fire could have spread due to the elevated fire conditions today,” said Chief McKay.
