CARVER — EMS Chief Michael Ryan is pleased to announce that Carver EMS has added intravenous (IV) pumps to its ambulances, significantly enhancing the department’s ability to deliver advanced care in the field.
As of Thursday, May 1, IV pumps will be installed and active on all Carver EMS trucks. The addition of these pumps marks a major step forward in patient care and places Carver EMS among a limited number of 911 emergency services in the region using this technology.
“Having IV pumps on our ambulances will allow us to administer critical medications with greater precision and reliability,” said Chief Ryan. “This technology expands the types of life-saving interventions our EMTs and paramedics can perform in the field.”
IV pumps enable EMS personnel to deliver medications that require controlled, continuous dosing — something that previously had to be estimated visually by counting drops. The new pumps will allow the paramedics to administer medications with precision to ensure safer and more consistent dosing, and allow them to set the dosage and perform additional measures without watching it.
In conjunction with the launch of the IV pumps, Carver EMS is also introducing OneDose, a mobile platform developed by Hinckley Medical. The app provides mobile access to protocols, dosing calculators and treatment documentation tools designed to reduce errors and improve operational efficiency. It streamlines medication preparation and helps ensure dosing accuracy across a wide range of medications.
“This is about improving patient outcomes and making sure we’re providing the highest level of care possible,” Chief Ryan said. “The IV pumps and OneDose platform work hand-in-hand to support our EMTs and paramedics, giving them the tools they need to deliver advanced interventions with confidence.”
