Indian River School Principal Kevin Towle will retire at the end of the school year, capping 14 years as the school’s leader and more than 40 years in public education.
He is the longest-serving principal in the history of Indian River School. During the 2021-2022 school year, he also served as Interim Principal at Mascoma Valley Regional High School.
A 1978 graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Towle furthered his academic journey by earning a Master’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1998. He dedicated more than 30 years to teaching and administration in Maine before joining MVRSD in 2011.
Throughout his tenure, Towle received several accolades, including Honorable Mention Administrator of the Year awards from the New Hampshire Parent Teacher Association in 2010 and 2011, and the prestigious Administrator of the Year award in 2013.
In 2017, Towle led a transformative school-wide improvement initiative, working closely with faculty to achieve recognition as a Spotlight School by the New England League of Middle Schools. This collective effort culminated in the official award being presented to Indian River School in December 2023.
“Mr. Towle’s leadership, dedication, and passion for education have made a lasting impact on the students and staff at Indian River School, and he will be greatly missed,” said Superintendent Amanda Isabelle. “The staff will miss the stories of Maine and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
