MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal John Murray are pleased to share that Medway High School (MHS) recently hosted a self-defense workshop for graduating seniors.

The workshop, presented by the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation (VTMF), took place during Flex Block on Wednesday, April 10, in the high school gymnasium. Physical Education Instructors Mr. Infanger and Ms. Benoit assisted. It was open to all graduating MHS Class of 2025 female and female-identifying seniors.

Thirty-five seniors participated in the event, which focused on building confidence, promoting safety, and teaching real-world self-defense skills.

“It was an incredible experience,” said Class of 2025 participant Riley Ashok. “It was lighthearted yet practical — teaching you the skills you need to keep yourself safe.”

The VTMF is known for partnering with organizations to deliver educational programs and mentorship opportunities that promote female empowerment and gender equality. The Foundation’s mission is to empower women to live boldly and fearlessly, while working to reduce objectification, harassment, and violence.

The goal of the workshop, through engaging instruction and hands-on learning, was for participants to leave feeling more confident in their ability to advocate for their safety and well-being.

“Providing our students with tools to navigate the world safely and confidently is a priority for us,” said Principal Murray. “We are proud to partner with organizations like the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation that share our commitment to empowering young people through education and action.”
