TYNGSBOROUGH — This week marks National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW), a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the critical work of public safety dispatchers across the country.
Celebrated annually during the second week of April, NPSTW highlights the professionalism and dedication of the individuals who serve as the vital link between the public and emergency services.
Public safety telecommunicators are often the unsung heroes of emergency response. They are the calm voice in the chaos, responsible for answering both emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering essential information, and dispatching police, fire, and EMS resources in real time. Their ability to multitask under pressure, remain composed, and make quick, informed decisions plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of both the public and first responders.
“Here in Tyngsborough, we are fortunate to have seven of the best public safety telecommunicators in Massachusetts. These professionals handle all incoming calls for police, fire, EMS, and business matters, coordinating responses and ensuring that help is always just a call away,” said Chief Woods. “It is a demanding and often stressful job, but our dispatchers rise to the challenge every day with professionalism and an unwavering commitment to service. As Chief of Police, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to our telecommunicator team. Their dedication to our community and to our public safety personnel does not go unnoticed.”
Tyngsborough’s telecommunicators are Supervisor Walesca Gomez, Assistant Supervisor Bonnie Murray, Telecommunicator Jose Martinez, Telecommunicator Kimberly Desmarais, Telecommunicator Ashley Cedorchuk, Telecommunicator Jennifer Barry, and Telecommunicator Colleen Cullen.
