Whitman Fire Department Extinguishes House Fire on Joyce Terrace

WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Clancy reports that the Whitman Fire Department and mutual aid partners extinguished a house fire on Saturday evening.

On Saturday, April 5, at approximately 5:39 p.m., Whitman Fire responded to a reported fire at 156 Joyce Terrace.

Units arrived under the command of Acting Lt. Scott Figgins, who found smoke showing from the garage of a two-story residential house.

Lt. Figgins requested a working fire assignment, which brought additional resources from the Abington, Hanson, East Bridgewater, and Bridgewater fire departments to the scene. Halifax provided an ambulance at the scene, and Rockland provided station coverage.

Chief Clancy arrived on scene and assumed command, while Lt. Figgins remained in charge of operations.

Firefighters used two hoselines to extinguish the fire in the garage, which caused significant smoke damage throughout the house.

The fire displaced the house’s residents, who are currently staying with friends.

The Whitman Board of Health, building inspector, and wiring inspector responded to the scene.

The Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to assist Whitman Fire in the investigation.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.

“I am extremely proud of how the members of Whitman Fire performed at the scene,” Chief Clancy said. “As always, they were professional and limited the amount of damage to the residence with an aggressive attack. Thank you to our mutual aid partners who assisted us.”
