BOURNE — Superintendent Dr. Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou is pleased to announce that Christine Borning has been named the new Assistant Superintendent of Bourne Public Schools.

This appointment follows an extensive search process conducted by the Assistant Superintendent Search Committee, which concluded with the selection of Borning as the successor to Barbara Starkie, who served in the role with distinction.

Borning, who has been the Principal of Bourne Middle School (BMS) since July 2018, will begin transitioning into her new role as Assistant Superintendent on April 7. She will also continue as BMS Principal until June 30 as the District conducts a full search for a replacement.

Borning has over 20 years of experience in Bourne as a music educator and an administrator.

The selection process involved a thorough review of over 38 applications, followed by interviews with six finalists and onsite focus groups to gather feedback from stakeholders. Ultimately, the committee advanced two candidates for final consideration, and after careful deliberation, Superintendent Dr. Quinlan-Zhou selected Borning for the position.

“I am thrilled to welcome Ms. Borning to the role of Assistant Superintendent,” said Superintendent Dr. Quinlan-Zhou. “Christine has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of the educational landscape, and a genuine passion for serving the Bourne community. I’m confident that with her in this role, we will continue to see positive growth throughout the district. We recently drafted our new Strategic Plan, and with her partnership, I believe our vision for the next five years will be accomplished.”

Borning has dedicated her career to Bourne Public Schools, where she has consistently focused on building strong relationships with students, staff, and community members. She is passionate about continuous improvement and ensuring the growth and success of all students.

Starkie, whose last day was March 31, has been an integral part of the Bourne Public Schools team. Her years of service were marked by a commitment to educational excellence and an unwavering focus on the needs of the students and staff. Superintendent Dr. Quinlan-Zhou and the District extend their heartfelt thanks to Starkie for her many contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

“I am truly thankful to be part of the amazing team of educators at Bourne Middle School, and I take great pride in all that we have achieved together. It is an honor to have been chosen for the role of Assistant Superintendent here in Bourne,” Borning said. “I look forward to continuing to collaborate with students, educators, and community members across the Bourne Public Schools, and I am eager to advance the important work that lies ahead for our district.”
