TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department arrested and charged a Lowell man with trafficking cocaine, assault and battery with a motor vehicle and other motor vehicle charges.
XAVIEN LOPEZ, AGE 18, OF LOWELL, was arrested and charged with:
- Trafficking Cocaine
- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle)
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
On Monday, March 31, at approximately 3:25 p.m., the Tewksbury Police Department was called to the area of Pike Street for a report of a crash with airbag deployment.
Officers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash involving a Mazda sedan and a Promaster student van. There were no students in the van at the time of the crash. The only injury reported was that of an apparent bystander.
An on-scene investigation determined that the bystander was attempting to purchase drugs from LOPEZ when LOPEZ demanded more money and grabbed the bystander by the arm. LOPEZ, who was driving the Mazda, then accelerated while holding the bystander’s arm, striking the passing van in the process.
The bystander was treated on scene for minor injuries.
A search of LOPEZ conducted at the scene located approximately 33 grams of crack cocaine.
LOPEZ was held overnight at the Tewksbury Police station and was arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court.
