BLACKSTONE — Fire Chief Kevin Roy and Police Chief Gregory Gilmore are pleased to announce that in the coming weeks, members of the Blackstone Fire and Police Departments will spend time with local students to educate them about careers in emergency services and law enforcement.
Department staff will meet with students during Charger Time, a dedicated period for personalized student learning, at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School as part of an effort to engage students and highlight career paths in public safety. The goal is to introduce students to professions that are currently experiencing staffing shortages, including law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medical services (EMS).
“Volunteer and on-call fire departments across the country are facing recruitment challenges, and we want to encourage the next generation to consider careers in public safety,” said Fire Chief Roy. “This is a great way for us to connect with students, answer their questions, and inspire them to serve their communities.”
During these visits, students can meet with department members and learn more about what it takes to become a firefighter, police officer, or EMS professional. The departments also hope to inspire students to join on-call fire departments in their own communities, reinforcing the importance of local volunteer emergency services.
Fire Chief Roy and Police Chief Gilmore extend their sincere thanks to Superintendent Jason DeFalco and the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District staff for allowing them to engage with students and share insights into careers in public safety.
Students who cannot attend the sessions but are interested in learning more about the fields or have questions are encouraged to contact Chief Roy at kroy@townofblackstone.org or Chief Gilmore at ggilmore@blackstonepolice.org.
“We appreciate the District’s support in providing this opportunity for students,” said Police Chief Gilmore. “We must introduce young people to these essential careers, and we look forward to connecting with them in the weeks ahead.”
