Town of Acton Receives Mobility Management Grant

The Town of Acton was recently awarded a $125,000 Mobility Management Grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The grant aims to fund Regional Transit Authorities, nonprofits and municipalities for projects that expand and enhance mobility for older adults, people with disabilities and low-income individuals across the state.

Acton will be using its funding for shared regional dispatch for the Council of Aging and other transportation services in Acton, Littleton and Sudbury. The funding will help reduce the cost of dispatching the Acton van services, including the fixed-route Cross-Acton Transit (CAT) shuttle and dispatchable vans.

The dispatchable vans provide on-demand transportation for all residents, prioritizing elderly individuals, people with disabilities and those requiring medical transportation. In 2024, the call center dispatched about 10,000 trips for the vans.

Additional Stops Added to CAT Shuttle

The CAT shuttle currently has 11 stops to fixed-route points of interest within Town, making 74 stops per day.

In 2024, the shuttle provided 4,700 trips to Acton residents.

Due to the CAT shuttle’s high interest, the Town has decided to add additional stops to the route beginning on Tuesday, April 1.

The shuttle will now stop at the Stop & Shop at 252 Main St. and Tavernier Place/ Acton-Boxborough Regional School District schools. The shuttle will stop at the crosswalk of Tavernier Place, where riders can cross the street to visit the school campus.
