STONEHAM — Superintendent David Ljungberg is inviting the media to attend a special event where Stoneham High School students will work with the district’s Integrated Preschool students from the Stoneham Early Learning Center to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Students from both SHS and SELC will “Rock Their Socks” in support of Down Syndrome. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and an understanding of Down Syndrome and to support creating inclusive environments where all students can be successful.
WHEN:
Friday, March 21, at 1 p.m.
WHERE:
Stoneham High School, 149 Franklin St, Stoneham, MA 02180
WHAT:
Students from Stoneham High School have organized and planned some fun, hands on activities for our Integrated Preschool students from the Stoneham Early Learning Center to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Students from SHS will also be spending time in the preschool classrooms at SELC to read books focused around celebrating our differences and all that makes us who we are.
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated each year on March 21, which signifies the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome.
Stoneham Police will also be on hand with special World Down Syndrome Day patches, as well as some special badges.
The event will include high school students from the Outreach Club reading to Pre-K students and participating in activities to recognize inclusivity and the fact that those with Down syndrome are not held back and have so much to bring to their communities.
