MAYNARD — Town Administrator Greg Johnson is pleased to share that Maynard has introduced its inaugural “Business Ambassador” in response to the business community’s expressed need to strengthen their connection with Town Hall.
Being in the pilot phase, the Business Ambassador’s responsibilities will be varied and evolve over time. However, they will maintain a core mission of:
- Identifying the business community’s needs and wants
- Building and gauging consensus around economic development
- Ensuring businesses are aware of the available resources and information at Town Hall
- Maintaining an open line of communication between Town Hall and the local commercial sector
- Promoting Maynard as a destination for new business
The pilot program commenced on March 7 under inaugural Business Ambassador Linda Cetrone, a Maynard resident. The program is expected to continue through Spring 2025.
Steve Silverstein, Executive Director of the Office of Municipal Services (OMS) plays a major role in coordinating economic development efforts within the Town. Through listening sessions, outreach efforts and one-on-one meetings, Silverstein said that “the sentiment was unanimous: more interaction with Town Hall is needed by our businesses.”
The Town believes that the Business Ambassador position can have an immediate impact and eventually become a permanent fixture of Town-business relations.
“We believe this position is sustainable if we have volunteers that feel comfortable and are right for this role. As a recently retired long-term employee of Middlesex Savings Bank, Linda Cetrone was a natural choice and has eased seamlessly into the position,” said Silverstein.
With limited resources for dedicated economic development personnel, OMS staff are hoping this initiative can set the stage for a full-time Economic Development Coordinator down the road by demonstrating the value of proactive economic planning.
“We want to continue cultivating a strong and sustainable business environment. Part of that is ensuring our business community understands how valued they are by the Town,” said Silverstein.
