NORFOLK — Norfolk Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ingrid Allardi and Dot Pearl, Director of Wellness for Norfolk, Plainville, Wrentham and King Philip Schools, are pleased to announce a free event — Stewards of Children by Darkness to Light — for parents and guardians on Monday, April 14.

Stewards of Children is an evidence-informed, award-winning training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. This training is offered to parents/guardians in the tri-town districts of Norfolk, Plainville, Wrentham and King Philip Regional.

“As April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, this is a timely training to support families,” said Director of Wellness Pearl.

Families are asked to arrive by 6:15 p.m. Training will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the Freeman Kennedy School cafeteria, 70 Boardman St., Norfolk.

This program is free and will be presented by trained facilitators from the Hockomock YMCA who are authorized by Darkness to Light.

Through interviews with a very diverse group of people with lived experience, experts, and treatment providers, Stewards of Children teaches adults practical actions they can take to reduce instances of child sexual abuse in their organizations, families, and communities.

“Norfolk Public Schools are partnering with the YMCA for this presentation,” Director Pearl said. “We’re working with the YMCA to bring this training to our staff, parents, and guardians.”
