WILMINGTON — Chief Joseph Desmond reports that the Wilmington Police and Fire Departments were among agencies that responded Tuesday to a serious crash on Lowell Street (Route 129).
On Tuesday, March 11, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Wilmington Police and Fire Departments were called to the area of Lowell Street at the Interstate 93 ramp complex for a report of a three-vehicle crash.
First responders arrived to find a three-vehicle crash and one of the vehicles rolled over onto its hood. Two occupants of the vehicle that rolled over were trapped in their vehicle. They were freed by firefighters from Wilmington and Reading, and then transported to local hospitals with injuries that appeared to be non life-threatening. Wilmington Fire transported one patient, and Reading Fire transported the other patient.
One of the drivers involved was cited for failure to yield.
In addition to seven Wilmington Police units and Wilmington and Reading firefighters, Massachusetts State Police and Reading Police assisted with closing roads and ramps at the scene for approximately 45 minutes. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene by providing signboards and assisting with debris removal.
