RANDOLPH — Chief Anthony Marag reports that the Randolph Police Department arrested and charged a man following a shooting on North Main Street Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, Randolph Police officers responded to the area of 96 North Main Street for a report of a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a 22-year-old male from Randolph suffering from a gunshot wound through his back.
The victim was treated on scene and transported by Randolph Fire Department medics to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.
As officers provided medical aid to the victim, additional responding officers, with assistance from the public, located the 24-year-old suspect from Brockton a short distance away near 51 Warren St. in Randolph. He was taken into custody without incident.
At the time of his arrest, officers discovered the suspect was in possession of two 9mm firearms. Ballistic evidence recovered at the scene indicated that one round had been fired during the shooting.
Randolph Police detectives, along with the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Unit, processed the scene. The Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit assisted in the investigation with a ballistics K-9.
“This was a swift and coordinated response by our officers, which led to the immediate arrest of an armed suspect,” said Chief Marag. “I want to thank our law enforcement partners for their assistance and commend our officers for their quick actions in ensuring public safety.”
If any member of the public witnessed this incident or has information relevant to the investigation, they are urged to contact the Randolph Police Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations at 781-963-1212 ext. 153.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
